Of women, by women, for women
Michel Nolan, Staff Writer
For Robbie Motter, it's all about showing up.
You just never know what opportunities you'll find, she'll tell
you.
"We put women together with mentors and opportunities,"
she says.
"There are tons of opportunities for women out there -
members have spoken on cruise ships, done all sorts of exciting
things," says Motter, who wears many hats - marketing,
public relations, radio and TV host, life and business coach, Motivational
speaker, mother and grandmother.
She is a founding sponsor of the For You Network, a local affiliate
of the National Association for Female Executives, or NAFE.
"The whole key is helping each other - everybody wins,"
says Motter, who left her job in corporate America, vowing she
would share both information and opportunity with other women.
That vow became her passion, and after four years with the For
You Network, she offers "tons of opportunities" to
entrepreneurs and other professionals.
"We all want to do stuff, but sometimes life gets in the
way. If we have someone in our lives who cares - who holds us
accountable - it makes a difference," Motter says.
One member recently published her book after ongoing encouragement
from Motter.
Touted as the "ultimate network for women with heart,"
the For You Network is a nonprofit organization that helps women
grow professionally and personally.
"When you are a heart organization, everything you do comes
from your heart," says Motter, who, at 70, is an example
of how following your passion can keep you youthful.
"Your purpose is to make a difference in the lives of others,"
she says. "It's not what's in it for you. Helping others
is a good feeling."
The network strives to mentor women in Southern California and
the western region of the United States.
Monthly meetings feature presentations by knowledgeable
guest speakers on a variety of topics and networking with other
professionals. The organization offers a mentorship program,
training seminars, speakers and writers bureau opportunities
and the opportunity to advertise in the For You Magazine. The
network has about 400 members in 19 affiliates throughout Southern
California, eight of them in the Inland Empire. The four local
"connections" in San Bernardino County are in Redlands-Loma
Linda, Rancho Cucamonga, San Bernardino and the High Desert.
Directors are all volunteers.
A volunteer adviser and director on the Executive Success Team
Board for the For You Network, Motter is also western regional
coordinator for NAFE and in 2005 added the Mid-Atlantic region
as well. In this capacity she oversees 23 states for NAFE, the
largest businesswomen's organization in the U.S.
During her career Motter was a single parent raising three children.
Balancing home, work, children and civic duties forced her to
learn time-management skills and juggle the many obstacles she
faced on a daily basis.
During some of those years she worked two and three jobs, she
says, to earn the income needed to support her children and
put them through college.
Motter is now busy working with members creating Success Center
Broadcasting, an Internet radio station with a variety of channels
designed to inform, educate and inspire listeners to live a
total-excellence lifestyle.
The station provides a forum for speakers, seminar leaders and
authors - as guest hosts - to showcase and share their expertise
and knowledge with an international audience, she says.
"I'm really excited about it."
According to Motter, "When an organization has heart, it
can be magical."
